A Miracle Story
Allen Hood suddenly started to have dreams about being back in Kansas City and being involved on staff. One dream that was very clear had three parts: first, in which they were involved in a wreck with a semi-truck and they were all happy, because no one was killed; second, in which Allen was involved in a team, but there was certain girl in the dream that Allen had to ask to leave because of certain reasons; finally, Allen was preaching in Hughes auditorium [which is the huge Asbury Chapel, where the revival once hit], and he would be preaching to the student body. Then as soon as he was done, he would be moving to Kansas City, and that he would be joining the staff. Allen thought the dream was symbolic, and he told everyone about it, but he thought maybe the car hitting the semi-truck represented his ministry coming into some sort of conflict with others.1
About a month after Allen had this dream, he was driving down a country road with his family. He came up over a hill, and there was a semi-truck right there, trying to turn around in the middle of the road. He hit the semi head-on, going fifty-five miles an hour.
The impact was extremely traumatic! After the accident, the EMS team separated him from his family. Allen’s lip was detached from the rest of his mouth, and he was in utter agony. His wife was now seven months pregnant with their unborn son (the doctors couldn’t find his heartbeat), and they took her to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. The hospital then sent Allen to was more of a rundown clinic. They did not have a plastic surgeon available, so the doctor had to drive an hour and half to get there.
Shelley Hundley, who happened to hear what had happened, rushed to the clinic where Allen had been taken. After the plastic surgeon arrived, the little hospital was hit with another accident, and there was no nursing staff available, so Shelley had to hold Allen’s lip as the plastic surgeon reattached it. Regrettably, there was no anesthesia there to put Allen under, so they gave him about one hundred local shots to keep the pain at bay while the plastic surgeon operated on Allen. He was fully awake, and Shelley assisted. Afterwards, they punted Allen out of the hospital, and they never gave Allen a CAT scan or MRI for his brain. Allen’s head swelled for the next couple of days.
His face was completely swollen with cuts everywhere and a severe concussion to go along with it. Allen was in very bad shape. He was in and out of consciousness with agony and intense pain accompanying him for the next two days. On the third day, Shelley, along with a team of students that was about ready to be sent out, gathered around Allen to pray for him to be healed. At the time, his wife was at the University of Kentucky and her baby’s heart had restarted, but she was still very banged up too.
When his students came in to see him, all the ministry students started to get really scared because they thought, “Oh no, we are about ready to go out on a mission trip, and here is what Satan does. He almost takes out our leader.” So, Allen, in his pain, prayed for them a blessing and said, “Hey, can you pray for me?”
“Something is really wrong. I am going to have to go to the hospital again.”
They prayed a really horrible prayer for Allen that had no faith attached to it at all. So, he stopped them, and he said, “I will not be offended if I don’t get healed, but could someone please pray like I have at least a one and million chance of being healed?” So, they gathered up some faith and prayed for him. Allen then went to lie down again, and he woke up about an hour and a half later with the POWER OF GOD UPON HIM. He walked out into the next room, and Shelley screamed, “YOUR FACE!”
“What do you mean?” Allen said.
Shelley screams again, “LOOK AT IT!”
Allen then went over and looked in the mirror, and he was completely healed. So, Allen said, “Well I’m healed. Let’s continue on with this ministry trip,” and he took the team that prayed for him and led them down to the Southwest.2
Allen’s wife and son went to their grandmother’s, and she tended to them for a while. Allen’s wife, over a period of time, healed up completely from the accident, and Allen’s son was born healthy and without incident.
Then later in the summer, he had to remove the girl that he had a dream about from the ministry. She eventually became a more whole person, and the Lord overcame the issue that she was dealing with that led to her removal.
Then later on, the Lord fulfilled the third part of his dream which included him preaching in Hughes Auditorium and this marked a season of change for him at which he started preparing to move back to Kansas City.3
