In the mid-90s, the leadership of the church decided to go on a five-day fast. For Kirk Bennett, this was the longest fast he had ever been on. At the end of the fast, he thought that he would like to finish the fast with Communion at the Friday morning prayer meeting, which was being held at the MVF auditorium. When he arrived, Michael Sullivant stepped up on the stage, and he had the Communion elements in his hands. Kirk thought, “Sweet, we are going to take Communion. This is what I wanted.” Then suddenly, one of the DCS teachers came down with the entire 5th grade class, and they were all weeping and even wailing, and they became part of the service. This was inconvenient to Kirk, because he had a work schedule that he needed to follow. So, he started to get a little impatient. Then the Lord spoke to Kirk very directly in his spirit, “This is Communion. They are wailing for lost souls. If you want to commune with Me, you need to weep for lost souls.” Kirk thought hard, “Whoa!” This message from God pierced Kirk’s heart. After the Lord had spoken this to Kirk, Jill Austin got up in the meeting and asked the schoolteachers, “Ask the children why they are crying?” The teachers said, “They are weeping for lost souls.” Then Kirk went up and sat by Michael Sullivant and told him, “Hey, I think I have a word from the Lord: real Communion is weeping for lost souls.”

So, Michael said to Kirk, “Why don’t you share that?” Kirk then got on stage and shared the word. Then with little time left, Michael told Kirk, “Hold the microphone, and I will break the bread and give the Communion elements.”

So, Kirk held the microphone standing on Michael’s left side putting the mic up to Michael’s mouth, so Michael could break the bread and share Communion. Then suddenly, the power of God entered Kirk’s body, as if a giant electrical current hit him. It came through his arms, through his legs, and through him to the middle of his body, and his hands shot out like he was on a cross. Kirk then started screaming and wailing at the top of his lungs, and the Holy Spirit came down into his face and asked him very seriously, “Do you want to commune with Me? Do you really want to commune with Me over lost souls? Everyone who communed at the table with Me was willing to die!” Then the Holy Spirit repeatedly asked Kirk over and over again, “DO YOU WANT TO COMMUNE WITH ME?”

Then Kirk felt a demonic and distracting presence flying in his face like bats and then someone hit him in the side like the spear that was used against Jesus. And Kirk wailed for the next 20 minutes. Kirk couldn’t do anything but stand there, as if on a cross! At the same time, five other people in the auditorium, including Scott Guinta, were having the same experiences of being on a cross (Scott’s experience led to a 30-day visitation). Then suddenly, Kirk thought, “Wait a minute, I am on my lunch break, what is going on?” As the power of God lifted, the Holy Spirit came to him again and said, “Now repeat after me: I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live, in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20—These were the words of Paul, but it really seemed like Jesus at that moment was speaking directly to Kirk) The Holy Spirit then lifted off Kirk the same way that He entered, by departing through his hands and his feet. Kirk stumbled backwards and Michael quickly grabbed an orange chair, putting it underneath Kirk, so he didn’t fall to the ground. Michael then handed Kirk the Communion elements, and for Kirk, it was like he was taking it for the first time ever in his life.1
