IHOPKC then went on a 21-day fast for angelic ministry to be released in their midst, specifically for angelic encounters and for the understanding of end time prophecies to come forth. On day 19, Allen Hood went on a trip to Chicago with Ed Hackett, and he broke the fast with two Chicago-style hot dogs. Allen couldn’t fast anymore. “I’m dying, I’m shriveled up, and I can’t do this anymore!”
But after eating those hotdogs, Allen got really, really, sick, and he went up to his Chicago hotel room and laid in the fetal position for three hours, because he felt like he was going to die. Then the next day, Allen had a pizza, and he flew home feeling like a total failure, and he let everyone down. “Here I am, the Associate Director of IHOP, and I can’t even finish the whole fast.” That night, Allen went to bed feeling physically horrible because of the pizza and emotionally horrible because he could not complete the fast.
But in the middle of the night, as he suddenly woke up, Allen was confronted by a man standing at the foot of his bed. There was light all over the man’s body, and the light was filling the whole room. He looked like a perfect man with regular height, around 5 ‘10” tall. Allen sat up in his bed, and the man began to speak to him. Allen was in shock. Then the angel spoke to Allen four messages that changed his life. The first three were for the broader body of Christ, but the last one was for Allen himself: not to be divulged, and of only of real value to him.
The first one was, “Allen, God is going to set you apart to live for Him and Him alone.” After feeling like a failure in fasting, it was reassuring because it was a message to him and others in the body of Christ that God is going to get you there. But as the angel spoke this one sentence, there were at least fifteen layers of information communicated underneath regarding what the Lord was fully communicating to Allen through this experience. The angel would say the same sentence again, and when he did, there was more revelation that came to Allen concerning that one sentence. Then the angel said secondly, “Do not be concerned with the multitude and the many.” The angel then said the first and then the second sentence over and over. At this, Allen knew that revival was coming to Kansas City, and that we could not be moved by the multitudes of people. We had to make decisions based on what God was saying or where God was leading us. Allen was awakened to a scenario, in which, when the healing anointing is released, lines will be so long that God will at times ask the leaders to close the healing lines and hold their hands up in the priestly ministry to the Lord, and that the lines of people will be angry. People will say, “How dare you stop the healing.” Allen said to me, “The same crowd that thinks you are hero on Sunday will crucify you on Friday.” Then he shared, “Do not make your decisions on what the crowd wants or based on human need. Every time you speak, do not count the numbers, because your speaking has nothing to do with crowds. You treat two people like you would treat ten thousand. Don’t get into the numbers game. Be faithful with the message, and the Lord will determine the size of the crowd.”
The third message that the angel said was, “You must walk this out with integrity and righteousness. You must orient your life to holiness.” Allen knew that it was for his children’s sake. He knew that they would operate in the gifts of the Spirit that we had never seen, and that they would need fathers and mothers who would have wisdom, and who would live righteously before God. “There needs to be fathers and mothers who build around righteousness for the sake of their children.” Then the final message was to Allen concerning his own future, but Allen understood that he just needed to live out the first three words that the angel gave him for the fourth and final one to come to pass. After this experience, Allen was totally undone by this, and it affected him for many years to come.
He told Mike about this experience, and Mike encouraged Allen to pray about the four things that the angel had spoken to him and see what happened. Then as Allen did what Mike encouraged him to do, it seemed to change him from a performance-based ministry man to where he now lives before an audience of One. The crowds mean nothing now, and Allen started to understand the Bible in a brand-new way. He also had a greater orientation towards his children. He knew that Jesus was returning, and that it would probably happen within his children’s generation, and that they would inherit the fullness of the Spirit of God.1
